Your auto photos are always so much better than mine. They have a distinctive look that I haven't been able to recreate. They almost look tilt shifted. Is that what you are doing?
Xavier, they're not, though that's the inspiration. Imagine a soft-edge selection - a mask with a 350-pixel blur applied - around the car, then invert the selection and apply a medium Gaussian Blur - around 32 to 64 pixels radius. It's usually the same selection that I use to create the dark vignette. That way, the dark also carries the blur, further separating the car from the surroundings. I use the same technique on a lot of other subjects as well.
